Impacts of COVID-19 lockdowns and mental health of children

Updated: May 14, 2021

COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown has brought about a sense of fear and anxiety around the globe. This phenomenon has led to short term as well as long term psychosocial and mental health implications for children and adolescents.

As a mum, in these unprecedented and uncertain times anxiousness has become part of my new existence, and masking it from my child has become the new norm. Amongst other adjustment we've all had to adapt to.

The implications we all face collectively are troubling. It seems that universally people are scrambling to find solutions to deal with issues on hand. The focus predominately has been the safety of the elderly including pre-existing conditions of adults, which is of course super warranted, though, the invisibility of our children is yet to take the centre stage.

The conversation needs to commence, building awareness, recognising that this issue needs to be addressed imminently.

There are more than 2.2 billion children in the world who constitute approximately 28% of the world's population. Those aged between 10 to 19 years make up 16 % of the world's population (UNICEF, 2019). COVID-19 has impacted the lives of people around the world including children and adolescents in an unprecedented manner.

On the plus side, during lockdowns, and as a whole I used most of my time re-evaluating almost every aspect of life and decided to implement ideas sitting on the back burner.

I started my new business specifically for Kids including unlocking their creativity to enhance their experience as positive, fulfilling and fun.

Kids are resilient however, they tend to adapt quickly to change and I guess awareness, is the first step in supporting our loved ones in any given situation.

Minimaker Box create and deliver the coolest kids DIY projects to your door. Our kits come packed with instructions and everything you need to create unique and fun jewellery.

Minimaker Box is a passion project and we just love sharing our passion for all things handmade! Our mission from the very beginning was to awaken joy in children and give them a little magic and hopefully inspire them to fall in love with the art of jewellery making.

We started out over 10 years ago hosting kids DIY jewellery parties in Sydney homes and loved every minute of it. Nowadays things are different and due to Covid -19 pandemic and the restrictions it was no longer business as usual and for that reason we created Minimaker Box as a way to share with others the things we absolutely love.

Explore our site and all that we have to offer. We hope Minimaker Box will ignite your own passions as well....let's make something great together!
